The author begins by explaining this specialty as it first confronts the conventionally-trained mind, and follows with.an analysis of the extraordinary contribution made by its founder, Dr Samuel Hahnemann, to modern medicine. There are several chapters on the use of homoeopathy in psychiatry, in which Dr Bodman had much experience. He then discusses the homoeopathic management of a wide variety of clinical conditions, including allergy - the area where research during the 1980s has demonstrated the effectiveness of the microdose. He concludes with a discussion of the' reasoning that lies behind research into homoeopathy."; previous owner's name on title page has been obliterated by marker pen; corners bumped; vertical crease to rear cover; includes index & list of series titles Size: Octavo (standard book size). 121 pages. no Dust Jacket as published.. Finckh, Elisabeth, Foundations of Tibetan Medicine; According to the Book rGyud bzi, Volume One

Foundations of Tibetan Medicine; According to the Book rGyud bzi, Volume One
Watkins, London & Dulverton, Somerset, 1978. First English Edition, Beige Cloth. Near Fine/N/A. brown titles spine & front with (front) Tibetan words - 'rlun', 'mkhris pa' and 'bad kan' drawn by the Tibetan artist Sherab Palden Beru; illustrated by two pages of b/w. block-prints from the book 'rGyud bzi'; illustrated large three-page foldout (Root A - Arrangement; Root B - Diagnosis; Root C - Therapy) tipped-in at rear; English language edition translated from the German by Fredericka M. Houser; preface by His Holiness the Dalai Lama; "Little has been known of Tibetan medicine in the West until the present day. In 'the forbidden land', visited by few westerners, medicine was taught in special medical schools and practiced chiefly by monks, who had to undergo a very long training. These medical schools were always closed to Western visitors. Since one could not meet Tibetan doctors, it was impossible to study Tibetan medicine, even though at the turn of the century a handful of Russian scholars did do some work on Tibetan medical treatises. Without oral instruction by competent Tibetan doctors, this unfamiliar area of medicine remains inaccessible even today. It was the custom in Tibet for the pupil to be initiated orally by the teacher, and it is still true that without such explanation a Western doctor simply cannot grasp the subject. The strict secrecy surrounding Tibetan medicine in the past has now been relaxed owing to political events. In 1959, the Dalai Lama was forced to leave his country. Some eighty thousand Tibetans joined him in flight, amongst them twelve doctors with whom we can now make contact in their countries of asylum. When the headquarters of the Dalai Lama were moved to the north Indian Himalayas (to Dharmsala, a small bazaar town in the State of Himachal Pradesh), a medical school was set up there; for the first time it became possible to meet Tibetan doctors."; the author, a specialist for internal medicine, & trained also in neurology, psychiatry and tropical medicine has made a study of Tibetan medicine with the help of the Dalai Lama's personal physician, interpreters, doctors & scholars culminating in the publication of this excellent work; a clean & unmarked copy; 103 pages. Malaria Control by Coastal Swamp Drainage in West Africa
Ross Institute of Tropical Hygiene, London, 1948. First Edition, Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/No Dust Jacket. Foreword, Preface & detailed Contents list to the front. The importance of Dr. Gilroy's work in the neighbourhood of Lagos is fully accredited by the success it has achieved, and its value emphasized by the words of Sir Hubert Walker, Director of Public Works at the time: "It may therefore truly be said that the value of the work to the war effort, the general health of Lagos and as a guide to similar work in future is incalculable." The details of Dr. Gilroy 's work refer to Lagos and its vicinity. The principles apply to any part of the world where dangerous anophelines breed in coastal swamps. 1860940846 Lightman, Susan, HIV and the Eye
Lightman, Susan
HIV and the Eye
Imperial College Press, London, 2000. First Edition, Laminated Boards. Near Fine/N/A. 9781860940842 white titles spine; ""the aim of this book is to cover all aspects of involvement of the eye in HIV infection although HIV patients can also develop eye problems which are not associated with HIV infection. These people are looked after by various types of attendants, and it is therefore very likely that eye problems may first present to the non-ophthalmologist before referral to the ophthalmologist. To address this, the first three chapters in this book are overview chapters: the first updates the reader on current management issues in HIV in these changing times while the second and third provide an overview of the different types of eye problems that can occur in both the pre-AIDS and AIDS phase of HIV infection. Chapters four, five, six and seven cover different types of ocular involvement in detail, and are particularly written for the ophthalmologist. Chapter eight details surgical procedures which are carried out by ophthalmologists and the safety issues which arise from intervention. Lastly, chapter nine discusses tbc ocular problems in developing countries, where the greatest number of HIVinfected patients live and where the patterns of ocular disease may be different. Some disease entities appear in several chapters and this has been done in order to ensure that each chapter is relatively self-contained and the reader does not have to browse through other chapters in order to cover the topic. In addition, the chapters are cross-referenced to guide the reader to another chapter where the same topic is also covered, usually in more detail. The text is illustrated with colour pictures with appropriate radiolology to complete the topic." ; including index - 270 pages. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Quantity Available: 1. Homoeopathy for Laymen
B Jain Publishers Pvt. Ltd. New Delhi, India, 1985. Reprint, Paperback. Very Good/N/A. black titles spine; orange endpapers; illustrated by b/w. diagrams; "Medication for mankind and animals should not be the sole monopoly of a particular system of medicine. Yet, when it comes to Homoeopathy, it is sometimes scoffed at as mere quackery. This little book is a convincing reply to such baseless and biased pronouncements. Apart from being an excellent dissertation for laymen to build a hobby for Homoeopathy, this book has several unique features. It explains the normal working of the human body with the help of neat diagrams. Keys have also been constructed for quickly determining the names of some remedies on the basis of a series of contrasting statements.· The strongest points of each of the selected remedies are given along with cases of cure in order to demonstrate how a few guiding symptoms of a patient can be utilized for successful prescribing. First-Aiders and veterinarians will find useful information in two different chapters. There is also a chapter on Schussler's Tissue Remedies. The inquisitive and the devoted will find selected references for 'further reading' under each chapter. It is hard to believe that so much valuable information written in an easy-to-understand style could be packed in so short a space."; light wear to spine ends; including index - 212 pages. Executive Health (SIGNED COPY)
Business Books Ltd. London, 1978. First Edition, Brown Cloth. Near Fine/Near Fine. 9780220663513 Signed by Author. gilt titles spine; signed on front endpaper with the inscription: "January, 1979 with very best wishes Andrew Melhuish"; illustrated by b/w. charts & diagrams; "today's successful manager has a responsibility for the health of his staff and for his own health - as well as the health of his family. Unfortunately. he usually receives little training in the supervision of the health of his staff; his employers may prejudice his own health by unreasonable demands on his skills and time; and he lives in a modem society in which stress seems an accepted part of everyday life. Such considerations might suggest that the executive is particularly prone to illness. Exactly the reverse holds true. The executive enjoys better health than his fellow workers in other social classes and so does his wife. Executive Health investigates the reasons behind this seeming paradox. The general pattern of disease in modem society is discussed and those illnesses which particularly affect the executive are identified. These illnesses are then discussed in simple terms and modem advances in diagnoses and treatment are summarised. A chapter deals fully with the relationship between stress and health - a controversial subject - while the last four chapters deal with the causes of ill health in executives and suggest appropriate remedies. These remedies are by no means all negative: while it is obviously important to stop smoking cigarettes. great emphasis is laid on the value of healthy habits such as exercise and diet. Executive Health encourages the executive to help himself to better health.."; the price-intact D/J. inner flap has left a vertical line on the f.e.p.; iincluding reading list & index - 190 pages. The Magic of the Minimum Dose: Experiences and Cases
The Homeopathic Publishing Company Ltd. London, 1946. Second Edition, Hardcover (Original Brown Cloth). Very Good Condition/Poor. Titles, contents & forewords to front. One feels that Homoeopathy is not clearly understood; it has been the Cinderella of Medicine for so long; it is time that this lowly hand-maiden should shed her cloak of humility and come out of her obscurity and boldly proclaim what good she can do. This account of some experiences in the daily harassing life of a humble homoeopathic disciple is given in order to spread the knowledge of Homoeopathy and tell of this miraculous power of the homoeopathic drug in sickness. This is not meant to be a textbook of Homoeopathy or a complete book on clinical homoeopathic therapeutics. They are just experiences picked out at random to illustrate the mighty truths that are hidden In Homoeopathy, and to show the sometimes wonderful results which can be obtained, if the directions given by the masters are followed. There are no exaggerations in the reports of the cases mentioned: they are plain unvarnished truths of incidents that actually happened. Revised Edition. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 269 pages.
